In Memory

Harold Douglas "Doug" Andrews

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of our very special classmate, Doug Andrews. Doug passed away peacefully this morning at 5:00 am. We were so saddened that he was unable to join us at our 50th year reunion a couple months ago, but we were blessed to have the special video that Doug sent to us (which is posted right here on this page). We shared it on a big screen in the hospitality room during the reunion, which helped to feel his presence with us during that weekend. Doug has always been an amazing inspiration to all of us throughout the years. He was loved and respected by many and he definitely left an impressive imprint on our hearts. Through Doug's career path as a teacher, instructor and professor he also touched many others in their educational journey. We extend our heartfelt love and gratitude to Therese, his wife and send our throughs, prayers and condolences to comfort her during this difficult time. May her heart be lightened by the love and memories that surrounds her and Doug. Please feel free to share any memories of Doug.

I never knew Doug personally, never even had a conversation with him, but nevertheless I was inspired by his amazing resilience and determination to succeed in life and to overcome one of the hardest personal tragedies imaginable.  He was truly an icon for all who knew him or knew of him at Coral Park.

I will never forget Doug when he came to visit me in the hospital after I had that terrible accident...here I layed in bed still being tested if I was going to walk or be in a chair as Doug...we spoke as if we were old friends and I know if was difficult for me because I had to learn to speak again...but for some reason we both managed...after that I never heard anything else of him until now...It is a very sad day for me and of a wonderful person he was an so brave to endure all the years of existist...I praise and salute you Doug!

Namaste dear brother...Peace..

Harold Douglas Andrews (aka Butch)

Doug was a man of passion, of keen observation, a truth seeker, a resolute lover of justice and a man of infinite courage. His life as a Teacher and Professor impacted 1000s positively and immeasurably across many generations.

Doug was my friend and a part of my family. He always knew the latest Gastro or Ethnic Restaurant opening in our neighborhood (yes Doug was a big time Foodie). There was no greater excitement than riding in his VAN(Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride) to one of his new restaurant finds. Many Maitre 'Ds in the local Restaurant Community knew Doug and we were always assured of good seating and service.

Doug always shared his thoughts in an unvarnished and unfiltered way on the plight of the human species from which I learned much. We talked for hours about Robots, Capitalism, Science Fiction, the human psyche and of course Food. He was such a literature Renaissance Man. I will miss our talks.

Lastly my friend I will miss your inimitable courage. You were the bravest and the most resolute of spirit human being I have ever met. Your wake will forever wash up against the Shores of Hope and Courage.
Good Speed Brother Doug.
All my Love, Your Brother
