Elaine Vivian Giddens

Elaine Giddens, 63, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012 due to complications of an infection following a yearlong battle with uterine carcinosarcoma.  She was born in Miami, FL and was a Cobb County resident for 42 years.  She attended the Woman's College of Georgia and the University of Georgia, and had a long career as a computer programmer, systems analyst, consultant, and as the information and telecommunications director for a large Atlanta law firm.  A take-charge person, Elaine held leadership positions in various work-related organizations and recreational groups.  An avid bowler, Elaine loved league and tournament bowling and participated in over 25 women's national bowling tournaments and over 40 state tournaments.  In the 1970's she had the high women's game for the year in Atlanta and the high women's series for the year in the state of Georgia.  A Braves lover and season ticket holder, one of her most exciting moments was winning a contest in 2006 to throw out the first pitch at a Braves game.  Elaine was predeceased by her father, Joe Giddens.  She is survived by her mother and step-father, Helen and Richard Quinn of Marietta; brother, John Giddens of Miami, FL, and his son and daughter, Cory and Ashley; step=brother Tom Quinn and his wife, Marcie of Weston, FL, and their children, Kasey and Ryan; step-sister, Kathy Egan, and her husband Terry of Pleasant Hill, CA, and their son, Nick; lifelong friend, companion and partner, Dottie Piehler of Marietta, their dog, Cody; and a host of friends.  Elaine will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
